Five Kettlebell Tips For Beginners:
There are probably more than five things you need to know, and I’ll go into more details below. Right now, let’s get you started with a few simple tips:
- Choose the right weight! This seems obvious, and it should be.
- Start off using just one bell and add more as necessary.
- Practicing correct form is the most important thing when learning new exercises.
- Don’t overdo it when you start out.
- Consider wearing gloves if your hands hurt too much.
Let’s look at some more tips now.
Learn To Utilize Your Kettlebell
A Kettlebell works pretty differently from a dumbbell or barbell. As such, you don’t want to just try and do standard weight lifting exercises. A Kettlebell is all about swinging and ballistic motions, so learn which exercises are best for you and your kettlebell. You can take a look at some of the exercises on this site, or you can even consider following a Kettlebell DVD to teach you the ropes.
The great thing about this type of exercise is that it will work out many different parts of your body at the same time. This creates a “Total Body Workout” which will result in some serious fat burn and muscle growth. The best of both worlds.
Follow Advice Of Others
…or even follow a prescribed routine. I just mentioned about following a Kettlebell DVD, and this is a great way to learn. When you go it alone, you might not realize that are you practicing incorrectly, with poor form, or even worse, you might not be getting the most out of your Kettlebell.
The best DVD this site has come across is Kettlebell Kickboxing, which is great for beginners (and you can up the difficult level as you improve too.)
Walk Before You Can Run
There are some seriously cool and impressive exercises out there, but make sure to check the difficulty level before you attempt them. You don’t want to injure yourself or become disillusioned because you couldn’t perform a certain exercise. Take your time and start with the simpler ones.
As a rough guide, you should try the following:
- Swings
- Cleans
- Windmills
- Squats
- Rows
(Check the exercise category to find more info on these)
